Last week I made the coolest thing. Sort of in between batches of hairwraps, needing a break from the same old production...I made a beautiful Ceremonial dagger.
I have been wanting to make one for years...it finally was time to sit down and do it. I could justify the time spent on making a beautiful thing just for its own sake, I have plenty of regular merchandise saved up, several nice new one of a kinders...
How wonderful! Its the most challenging piece I have made. Working the really heavy metal with the really light wire, light sheet, it was a difficult thing. I just didn't really have any choice once I got started! A piece like this just takes over and demands its own life.
A beautiful ceremonial dagger. Sterling silver, and it weighs 92 grams, thats almost 1/4lb, so it feels heavy and solid in the hand. Its about 8 inches long. Only a hand that fits it can safely hold it, as its designed in such a way that if handled carelessly, it bites back. Fits my hand (of course I built it around my hand, after all thats the hand I have in the shop to work with)and other female hands, maybe a few mens hands too. I haven't been able to bring myself to show it much yet, there aren't many people you can show a thing like this to, after all. Its not like you take it out in front of people who can't understand what it is, what it is for. Its no toy, but its more than just art. Its a magical device and as lovely a thing of its type that I have ever seen.
I will bring it to the Spring Best of the Northwest this coming weekend, over on Lake Washington. Email me for more info, or scroll down to the card below! Come see it before it finds its person.
Its so amazing to make something like this! I have the best job in the world! Barb
