There is an interesting magnifying weather effect called the Fata Morgana. We see it most often to the west when we look at the Olympics. Sometimes they are politely in their place far away...but sometimes they look like they were moved a hundred miles closer and lie right off our little bit of Admiralty Inlet.
Here is an image Haole got of Seattle. It is actually about 35 miles or more south of us and usually the buildings are tiny little toys sitting near the horizon. In this shot they look right off the south end!
Fata Morgana playing tricks with us!
Yesterday we had a small soiree on the deck with a few friends for Haole's upcoming birthday. I haven't gotten any images made small enough to post or email, but I will very soon. Keep an eye out, LN and Lar, Lowie and Craig were here and I'll put their picture up for you! The day was sunny enough, but the wind had kicked up and made it a windy party. Everybody gets up to work early so it was just a quick afternoon event of pog-eritas and nachos and many other dips and snacks, but we all ate and drank hearty and had fun. Everybody left by 5:30! We cleaned up and took Boot to the beach for his daily dog walk, and to get a few chunks of driftwood. Haole accidentally ripped out a length of our woven twig garden border under the deck, so I cleaned it all out and plan to replace it with wood and rocks. Needed to start finding logs and stuff.
Maybe we'll grab a few buckets of rocks tomorrow night after we meet Holly and Rob at Toby's Tav in Coupeville, another birthday event for Haole. I'd like to have something each day, weekend to weekend to celebrate...so far it looks pretty sedate. Darn. All our friends have weird work schedules, babies, etc and made it not possible to share it with everyone at one big party, hence the many smaller ones.
OK I have to get back to the work bench. I have some weird inflammation in my knuckles on one hand, so I work a bit, then wrap in in a polar pack for a bit. Seems to be doing something. Not sure what...Its pretty painful tho, maybe just my first real arthritis experience, the little twinges and aches were nothing compared to this!
This is hand-cradling agony if I dare to use tools. Ain't getting old something!
Later, Barb
